Sometimes life takes a turn!

These two. They look so quiet and peaceful 😁 About 6 weeks ago I broke my left arm right up inside my shoulder, and found out 3 weeks later that I'd also broken my foot. It was one of those ridiculous situations where a number of factors and decisions come together to create some kind of chaos. Long story short, I got pulled over by my two beautiful dogs who decided that going to Doggy Day Care in the van was way more important than my safety. 😄😄. I knew my dogs were strong, I didn't realise the grass was wet and they went so fast that they literally pulled me over totally flat on my face. By sublime good fortune or grace I landed between our concrete driveway and concrete path on the grass. If I had landed on the concrete God only knows what damage I might have done. Of course, this created some interesting outcomes. My hubby is sight impaired and uses a guide dog. I am the only driver. I am immensely thankful to good friends who have gone out of their way to help for a...

It's been a While...

It's been a while, but here I am. I've been recovering from burnout and a year last year that had many challenging aspects to it. I'm on a journey to not only being healing to myself, but discovery waited that I can bring wellness into every aspect of life.  What have I been doing over there last year? Take a read of the following:  https://www.thespiritualtraveller.net/blog/its-been-a-while It's from another blog I wrote recently. I haven't done any blogging over the last little while, but I've reset and am now ready for the next phase of this journey.

The tree

The once beautiful eucalypt in my backyard is being removed. It was such a wonderful tree but in the last few months it started to die back and become dangerous, so with council permission, today it is being removed. I asked the tree people what might have caused it to die back and they said it was probably root bound and strangled is roots around itself.   Got me thinking how important it is to not strangle or cut off our source of life, and to keep stretching and growing in new directions. The strangling of roots probably started well before any noticeable effects,  and it's the same with is, cut off the life giving sources and we may look ok for a while,  but if we don't do anything, eventually we will start to 'die back'.

ADHD

We are seeing a number of adults being diagnosed. This doesn't surprise me. The more we understand and see what our children experience the more we see how these same challenges existed in our own childhoods and continue to impact  our lives on a daily basis.  ADHD is better understood these days and many adults find great relief in finally being diagnosed and receiving appropriate treatment and care. Our group for adults is growing and we are learning from each other, encouraging each other, and recognising,  that in the many challenges we face each day, we are not alone.  We want to support and encourage those in our group, continue to advocate for better support for those living with ADHD  in the community, and educate our community on the realities of ADHD. There are many positive aspects to ADHD but families can feel overwhelmed by the challenges and we want to make a difference be for them.  The media often produces sensationalised stories that improp...

Adults with ADHD

Many years ago most people, including professionals, assumed that childen grew out of ADHD when they reached a certani age, an certainy by adulthood. Today we know differently. Not only do we understand that most people carry ADHD into adulthood, we also know that the number of girls with ADHD is is similiar to the number of boys with ADHD and that whilst it may manifest differently the condition is still as difficult to manage.  What we are finding in our ADHD support group is that parents are realising that they to have ADHD and that they were never diagnosed as children, simply because it wasn't well understod or accepted by the community. In fact we are seeing many more people than ever before seeking support for themselves as well as their children. As we see more adults being diagnosed wih ADHD and getting the support they need, I believe there will also be more acceptance of this fact and that any stigma related t an ADHD diagnosis will disappear.  It will take time but...

Me

Lots of people with great journals and journals ideas that look fantastic. I see the ads all over Facebook. Thing is: i love the idea; I love creative journals and productivity journals and art journals.  I have had them all at some stage. BUT and its a big BUT, they mostly don't work well for me. I use them for a while, lose them, put them in safe places, allocate special uses for them, and find them 5 years later. I will maybe use them again at some stage and the process will start again.  I have my own system (if you could call it that) that works most of the time. It probably seems chaotic to others but as much as I try to 'organise' I end up less organised and frustrated. I also dislike unfinished things so this creates a tug-of-war of competing interests in my brain. (Oh yes,  it can be a mine-field for the uninitiated) but it works for me.  My point is I guess that different things work for different people in all areas of life. Find what works for you and don'...
